About Me
Throughout my career I have worked with a wide range of counselling issues being experienced by adults and children; including rape, self-harm, anger, domestic violence, bullying, pregnancy, relationship breakdown, sexual identity and various other issues.
I also work with the Ellenor Foundation counselling bereaved clients of different genders and age. I find this very fulfilling and of great benefit to the clients who 'move' on to a new journey in their life.
Previously I have worked with Bexley Centre for the Unemployed counselling women experiencing domestic violence. Working alongside the women has given me greater insight into the client's world and has built up my knowledge and understanding.
I am disabled and have found that this has not had a detrimental affect on the therapeutic relationship in some cases it has enhanced it.
My passion and motivation has been to support people to build and sustain satisfying, healthy and effective relationships with themselves and others and achieve their desire to live rewarding and fulfilling lives.
I view the individual as a whole person and emphasise working directly with that person's experience as a basis for self knowing, and recognise the capacity of individuals to heal themselves and give shape and value to their lives. My work is concerned with the development of human potential - not in an idealised form but in the development of each individual's potential to become what we may become.
It is part of my humanistic belief that therapy can be a humanising process for both the client and the therapist, and that the receptivity, emotional responsiveness and level of personal skill of the therapist is as relevant to the therapeutic relationship as the theoretical frame of reference or the techniques they employ. The relationship between client and therapist is more important than the professional approach of the therapist. Techniques, important as they are, remain secondary to good contact and communication. I recognise that individuals will have their own inherent approaches to learning and change so it is important to choose an approach that 'fits' with the client's needs and circumstances. I therefore set out with each client to do the best I can at that moment, maintaining my vision and integrity for that specific step.
